The Ironside Jacket

Originally cut from surplus military canvas on a kitchen table in Corktown, the Ironside has been in continuous production since 1953 — making it one of the longest-running garments in American workwear. This season's edition pairs the original three-panel back yoke with a 12oz Japanese selvedge canvas sourced from Okayama, delivering a shell that ages into a personal artifact.

No. 002

Rouge Denim

Named for the River Rouge plant where James Caldwell Sr. spent his formative years, this 14oz raw selvedge is woven in Okayama on vintage shuttle looms. The fabric arrives unwashed, unsanforized, and full of character — ready to record six months of wear into a pair of jeans that is entirely, irreplicably yours.

Michigan Chino — full-length view in aged khaki, relaxed taper silhouette
No. 003

Michigan Chino

Cut from a heavyweight army twill that was standard issue for Midwest factory floors in the 1950s, the Michigan Chino balances a generous top block with a tapered leg — roomy enough to kneel, sharp enough to wear to dinner. Hidden coin pockets and a triple-stitched crotch gusset nod to the garment's utilitarian origins.

Assembly Boot — profile view showing Horween Chromexcel leather, Goodyear welt, natural leather sole
No. 004

Assembly Boot

The Assembly Boot is Caldwell's answer to a question no one else was asking: what if a work boot could outlive its owner? Built on a Goodyear welt with Horween's Chromexcel leather — the same 28-step tanning process that's been running since 1905 — this boot resolves, re-soles, and gets better every year for the rest of your life.

Foreman Overshirt — heavy flannel in charcoal check, open front showing interior chest pocket
No. 005

Foreman Overshirt

Part shirt, part jacket, entirely Caldwell. The Foreman is cut from a heavy Portuguese flannel that sits somewhere between outerwear and layering piece — warm enough for a Detroit autumn, light enough to wear indoors without overheating. Elbow patches in Horween chamois add a quiet luxury to a garment built for daily rotation.

Riveter Belt — coiled bridle leather belt with brass buckle on parchment background
No. 006

Riveter Belt

English bridle leather, tanned for eighteen months in oak-bark pits — there's no shortcut to a belt this dense. Each one is cut from a single hide, hand-beveled along both edges, and burnished until the leather glows. The solid brass buckle will outlast the leather. And the leather will outlast you.

Motor City Cap — three-quarter angle showing waxed cotton crown, leather strap, and embossed brass buckle
No. 007

Motor City Cap

An unstructured five-panel in British Millerain waxed cotton — the same fabric used on sailing jackets and game bags. The cap develops a beautiful patina of creases and oil marks that render it, after a few months, uniquely yours. An adjustable leather strap with brass buckle ensures a clean fit on any head.

Foundry Tote — flat lay showing waxed canvas body, leather handles, interior divider, brass rivets
No. 008

Foundry Tote

Big Jim Caldwell carried his cutting tools in a canvas sack. Robert Caldwell carries a laptop and a thermos. The Foundry Tote bridges the gap — a modern carryall with the structural integrity of a 1940s tool bag. The interior is lined with a custom-printed newspaper motif, because at Caldwell's, even the inside of a bag tells a story.
